Sustainability and environment
At the Pere Tarrés Foundation, we have been working for over 70 years for a more sustainable planet and for recreation that respects the natural environment.
Environmental awareness inspires the principles on which our strategy and management are based. That's why we not only carry out our activities in a way that is consistent with resource use and environmental sustainability, but we also actively work to raise environmental awareness among children, adolescents, and young people through educational and training activities and outreach materials.
Citizen Commitment to Sustainability
The Pere Tarrés Foundation is a signatory to the City of Barcelona's Citizen Commitment for Sustainability. This affiliation entails joining "Barcelona+Sostenible," a network of organizations committed to environmental, social, and economic sustainability that collectively build a city that is responsible to people and the environment.
Implementation of environmental best practices
Efforts are underway to promote the implementation of good environmental practices and integrate them into daily management, with the aim of helping to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability criteria. Among these practices are responsible resource consumption, purchasing products with ecological certification, and proper waste sorting. This commitment is reflected in daily actions that help minimize environmental impact, such as reusing materials, reducing plastic packaging, conserving energy, and raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment.
Contribution to the SDGs
With the aim of improving our world, the Pere Tarrés Foundation feels compelled to commit to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals approved by the United Nations General Assembly to improve our world by 2030. Specifically, 1,021 educational and social activities of our organization contribute to these objectives.
Improvements in facility efficiency
In over 90% of facilities, the Pere Tarrés Foundation has contracted 100% renewable electricity. We continue to promote digital monitoring tools for energy consumption to implement action programs for its reduction.
Certification of an environmental management system
In order to prevent pollution, reduce environmental impact, and promote sustainability, we hold certification for the environmental management system implemented at our headquarters on Numància Street and at the training and consulting center on Carolines Street, both located in Barcelona, in accordance with the ISO 14001:2015 standard. The certification body is TÜV Rheinland Ibérica.
Environmental education
The Pere Tarrés Foundation was a pioneer more than 30 years ago with the creation of its nature centers and its environmental education program, in order to raise awareness of the importance and necessity of knowing, respecting, and conserving the environment we live in. Last school year, about 13,361 children, adolescents, and young people from many schools participated in its environmental education programs.
Publication materials
With the aim of raising awareness and deepening ecological consciousness in society, the Foundation produces articles, video capsules, publications, as well as other materials such as educational sheets that propose activities linked to the various Sustainable Development Goals. The materials are designed to be useful for carrying out, developing, and managing the educational activities of families, school teaching teams and educators, and leaders of after-school and socio-educational centers.
