Legacy and charitable will

Your legacy can transform lives.

At the Pere Tarrés Foundation, our purpose is to work to mitigate socio-educational inequalities among children and young people in vulnerable situations, in order to generate a positive impact on their lives and on society, and thus break the cycle of poverty.

To continue expanding and multiplying our solidarity efforts and reach all the children and young people who need it, your solidarity is essential. We guarantee it will translate into opportunities for children.

Educating, acting, transforming, and creating change remains our reason for being more than seventy years after we began our work. That is why we support children and young people in growing in every dimension and in integrating into today's society with all their rights and abilities.

How we do it and why your solidarity is so important

Through the Network of Socio-Educational Centers,

where every afternoon, when the children get home from school, we give them a snack, help them brush their teeth, do homework together, play sports and play for a while until 7:30 p.m. If they didn't come to the center, these children would be home alone (those who have homes), sometimes caring for younger siblings, sharing a room with people outside the family, or glued to a screen.

With job placement apartments

We provide housing and food to migrant youth between the ages of 16 and 21 who arrive in Catalonia on their own. With teams of educators, we help them improve their educational, social, emotional, and labor skills to promote their inclusion in society. We currently operate four apartments in Mataró, Vilassar, and Sabadell, which 32 young people passed through during 2024.

We promote educational outdoor leisure activities, offering healthy meals, sports, contact with nature, play, and positive role models for children and young people in vulnerable situations so they can grow, learn, enjoy, and develop as individuals.

Inheritance and the solidarity legacy are two options of responsibility and commitment that bring emotional benefits while perpetuating wishes, values, and solidarity beyond life. In recent times, more and more people are leaving part or all of their inheritance to nonprofit organizations, according to data from the College of Notaries of Catalonia.

What is a charitable will?

A will is a notarial document in which you specify how you want your assets to be distributed after you are gone. In this document, you can designate a social nonprofit cause to receive your inheritance, which would be the entirety of your assets, or you can make a charitable bequest, which would be a specific portion of this inheritance (money, real estate, etc.). Making a charitable bequest is a simple process that you can change whenever you wish, and it allows you to continue supporting the causes that have been important to you during your life.

What will my charitable bequest be used for?

At the Pere Tarrés Foundation, we guarantee that your wishes will be transformed into support, education, and a future through our socio-educational centers and inclusion apartments, as well as through scholarships for camps and educational activities that change lives. Every legacy, no matter how small, is a seed of change that endures beyond our lifetime and builds a more just society. Including the Pere Tarrés Foundation in your will helps build a more just future for children and young people. For more than seventy years, we have continued to educate, act, and transform lives in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

Questions

Why should you make a will?

It is the declaration by which a person disposes of the destination of their assets in favor of one or more heirs and may also establish legacies and other provisions for after their death. It usually establishes:

  • Who will be the beneficiaries of their assets
  • In what proportion and how they will be distributed
  • How the estate should be used (less common)

By making a will, you make the process easier for your family and perpetuate the causes or intentions that were part of your solidarity in life.

How to make one?
  • Talk with your family and reach a consensus on your decision if you plan to include the Pere Tarrés Foundation.
  • Go to a notary to formalize your will and include our tax identification number (approximate cost of the procedure: €50–75): Fundació Pere Tarrés, R-5800395-E, Numància Street, 149-151, 08029 Barcelona.
  • If you wish, please let us know (no details are necessary) so we can thank you and carry out your wishes when the time comes.
Bequest or inheritance, what's the difference?

An inheritance is the totality of properties, rights, and obligations that heirs receive (first and foremost, children or descendants and, if none, parents or ascendants; the surviving spouse, depending on the different common or special laws, is granted a series of rights) when the person dies (the legitimate share). In contrast, a bequest is a portion of that inheritance, and in this case the beneficiary is not liable for the testator's obligations (including debts) with their own assets.

What can you include in a bequest?

It can be a specified amount of money, material assets (real estate, land, jewelry, works of art), financial securities (stocks, investment funds, shares), or a percentage of the bequeathed estate, among others.

Can the will be modified?

The will can be changed whenever you want. The most recent will is the one that will have legal effect.

How will the bequest be used?

Your solidarity can transform lives. At the Pere Tarrés Foundation, we work to educate, act, transform, and generate change among children and young people in vulnerable situations and at risk of social exclusion. All our projects are aimed at mitigating inequalities and ensuring equity among the boys, girls, and young people in our territory.

Inheritance Tax

Non-profit organizations are covered by the tax exemptions provided for in Law 49/2002, so we are exempt from paying the inheritance tax and the corporate tax provided for in said law.
