Digital divide

We reduce the gap that arises when there are difficulties accessing digital technology.

Origin of the campaign

The "Digital Divide" campaign was born from the realization that the socioeconomic situation of many families directly affects children's and young people's access to computers, Internet connectivity, and digital devices. This lack of resources limits their educational opportunities and harms their academic performance. Faced with this reality, our Foundation has launched this project to ensure that the children and adolescents we support have the necessary resources to continue their learning under better conditions.

Impact

The impact of the digital divide is profound because it not only affects access to technology, but also equality of opportunity. The Foundation points out that, during the initial lockdown of the pandemic, in one out of every three vulnerable families the academic performance of their children declined because they could not keep up with the learning pace due to a lack of computers at home and/or Internet access. This highlights how digital exclusion can become educational exclusion.

Methodology

The campaign's methodology combines different forms of support to reduce this inequality. On one hand, at the Foundation's socioeducational centers, children and young people have computers at their disposal so they can do their homework under optimal conditions. Additionally, the educational support space has been expanded, where they can resolve doubts with the help of educators. On the other hand, the campaign channels various forms of collaboration: financial donations, donations of computers or tablets, and volunteering both to help children with their homework and to support families with online tasks.

Result

The campaign's objective is very specific: to guarantee connectivity, educational support, and real access to digital devices for the children, young people, and families who need it most. For example, with €50 a family can have phone connectivity and Internet access for a month, and with €250, two children can receive tutoring for a month at a community education center. Additionally, the donation of computers and tablets is promoted so that children can do their schoolwork and continue their educational process with greater equity.
