Research and doctorate

The social and economic inequalities that are marking the beginning of this century are endangering the integration of the most vulnerable sectors of the population. We thus have to face the collective challenge of safeguarding the plurality of our society and strengthen the social fabric in order to compensate for the effects of these inequalities.

The prevention of discrimination in all its forms and the fostering of equal opportunities in people's access to health, education, work and social participation are the best approach to reducing social fragmentation and promoting social cohesion and quality of life.

The Pere Tarrés Faculty places the emphasis on researching the best practices in social intervention to ensure social inclusion. This focus is embodied in six major objectives:

  1. To identify the best models of social intervention with which to promote participation and the active exercise of citizenship.
  2. To analyze the best practices for promoting quality of care in the social services and in socio-educational action in general.
  3. To develop explanatory theories of integration and social cohesion.
  4. To compare the best practices for the promotion of interfaith dialogue between the various communities.
  5. To identify the mechanisms that favour the social and economic integration of people with functional diversity.
  6. To validate training strategies that will ensure the development of an ethical perspective and skills in the handling of complex situations by professionals engaged in social and socio-educational action.

The Faculty channels its research work through the GIAS research group (Group for Social Analysis and Innovation).
