Short Trip to Cadaqués

Short Trip to Cadaqués

If there is a place in the Empordà that lives anchored in its own time is, without doubt, Cadaqués: romantic and quiet, was a victim of assault by pirates and Saracens, played an important role in the crusade against Catalonia and, even, developed the naval exchange with America. The old town of Cadaqués still cherishes many memories of its long historical trajectory, for example, the carrer del Call: this is made of rastel, a paving created with beach ridges that prevented people from slipping on rainy days. In the old town you also find Santa Maria de Cadaqués, which offers incredible views of the town because it is the highest point of the old town.

The leisure offer is huge: a museum dedicated to Dali's work, more than 10 art galleries, a number of landmark buildings ... Undoubtedly in Cadaqués there is a lot to see. And what do not forget its first class cuisine? Cadaqués restaurants base their offer on what gives us the Mediterranean, and turn it into poetry for the senses. And if this is not enough, you still have much more to see in this town!

What to visit in Cadaqués

  • Portlligat, where Dalí fell in love with the Sea

In the town of Cadaqués you'll also find Portlligat, a small town that is born in a cove of Cap de Creus. It was here, in a fishermen's huts, where Dalí placed his residence in 1930, and lived until the death of his wife Gala in 1982.

Today, this residence has become house-museum and you can visit it whenever you want: here you'll find works of the artist and his everyday objects. Undoubtedly, it is worth going here if you want to better understand what lies behind one of the most famous artists of all time.

  • Cap de Creus: pure nature

The Cap de Creus is the easternmost point of the peninsula, and hosts a nature reserve with incredible geological, plant and animal variety. It is a rocky area exposed to the winds from the north and east, which gave it its peculiar aspect. In the Cap de Creus the land meets the sea and was a source of inspiration for Dali, but also for many others: singers, writers and poets succumbed to its wild charm and immortalized it in their works. The town of Cadaqués has much to offer the visitor. So if you want to feel like you've traveled back in time, do not hesitate: come to discover the secrets hidden here and there in this population and let yourself be surprised by the sea.
