How to get from Barcelona Airport to the city centre

Barcelona - El Prat airport  is one of the largest in Europe and the main gateway to the capital of the western Mediterranean. Sometimes, however, it is not easy to orient yourself and find out which is the most suitable transportation to reach the city.

From the airport Barcelona to the city centre

By metro

Barcelona airport is connected by Metro both from T1, the main terminal, and T2. L9 Sud (south), one of the most modern metro lines in the world, is connected with other underground and train lines of the city. The best connection to go to Plaça Catalunya is:

L9 Sud has direct connection from Barcelona - El Prat airport, with the Fira 2 (city’s trade fair compound), Camp Nou stadium or the Diagonal University Campus. From T1 and T2 terminals single metro ticket costs €4.50. T10 city transportation cards are not valid to go from or to the airport via L9. Visitors have the option to buy one of the Hola Barcelona cards valid for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days which include unlimited travel during the chosen period of time.

By commuter train (Rodalies or Cernanías)

The commuter line R2 Nord (north) stops at Barcelona Airport T2. A free Shuttle Bus service allows you to move from T2 to T1 and vice versa. Trains have a frequency of 30 minutes and stop at Sants station and Passeig de Gràcia station - 10 minutes walk from Plaça Catalunya. This line allows the use of the T10 transportation card. The train option is the fastest to reach the centre, as the trip to Passeig de Gràcia takes about 30 minutes.


En autobús

  A very popular way to get from the airport to the city centre of Barcelona is the Aerobus, which departs every 5 or 10 minutes from T1 and T2 and takes you to Plaça Espanya, Carrer Urgell and Plaça Catalunya. The price of this service is €5.90 for a single ticket and €10.20 for the return ticket. This service is private and does not accept any of the Public transportation cards such as T10, T50; day cards or the Hola Barcelona ones. From Barcelona - El Prat airport you also take one of the metropolitan buses that connect you to the surrounding municipalities such as L'Hospitalet, El Prat or the same Barcelona. By taxi

You can use one the fantastic taxis in the city but this is the most expensive option. The price, including luggage, goes around €25 to €30 € depending if it’s a weekday or weekend.

From Barcelona Airport to Youth Hostel Pere Tarrés

Youth Hostel Pere Tarres is one of the best in town and is also very well connected by public transport with the city centre and the airport. From T1 or T2 you can reach the hostel by Metro via L9 Sud. You have to stop at Zona Universitària and then switch to the Tram, which stops  just 100 metres from the hostel. Or remain in the Metro premises and switch to L3  (green) to Les Corts station, just 200 metres from Youth Hostel Pere Tarrés. With  the R2 Sud commuter train service can you can reach the hostel in just over 40 minutes. Go to Sants station and change to Metro L3 (green) to Les Corts.
