The MCEC (Christian Leisure Centres Mouvement) is the federation of Christian leisure education organizations of the Archdiocese of Barcelona composed of some 200 centres with 17,000 children, teenagers and young people and 4,000 volunteer monitors, charged with the education work.
The federation was born in 1971 under the former name of Servei de Vacances (holidays service), and changed into the latter MCEC (1985) when Fundacio Pere Tarres was founded.

The MCEC is a service that the Barcelona Church offers to the society in the specific field of children and young people education in the esplai centres. As a federation, it offers its services in the centres, it spreads its activities, encourage the education of monitors and promotes the cooperation between these centres.

The esplai leisure centres take an educating action in order to live a meaningful leisure experience, by means of:

	the presence and action of a monitors group.
	activities: games, sport, discovery, work, apprenticeship, party, prayer, adventure,...
	life within a group, the community sense .
	everyday life together, experienced in the framework of esplai centres
	self-involvement, participation and responsability

The MCEC estimulates the creation, growth, consolidation and everyday improvement in education quality of esplai centres:

	helping to educate monitors and other responsible heads
	encouraging the cooperation between centres
	doing campaigns and working areas
	providing services and assistance

It is divided into 16 areas, or meeting points for the centres in the same territory, representing the counties of Barcelones, Baix Llobregat, Maresme, Alt Penedes, Garraf, Osona, Valles Oriental, Valles Occidental, Anoia, Bages and Ripolles

The Ambits Working Fields
The Mouvement reinforces and dynamizes the activities of the esplai centres and the areas by means of the Ambits working fields.

The Ambit is a reflection and working space where monitors from the different esplais meet in order to propose actions. In the Ambits, we try to set working tools for those subjects which worry the centres and which are, definitively, the essence and commitment of our Mouvement.
