Santa Maria de Poblet

The Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet is one of the outstanding ones in Western Europe, with extraordinary elements of the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque in the church and other buildings. In 1940 monastic life was resumed and it is now an active religious centre.

 

 

 

 

 

Monestir de Santes Creus

This is one of the largest and best preserved Cistercian monastic sites that can be visited at present. Founded in 1168, protected by the nobles and the kings, it soon became a spiritual centre, a place of study and of colonisation of the territory. There was continuous monastic life there until 1835.
